New Mexico Disposable Camera Challenge Results!

A few weeks ago I posted that I was doing a Disposable Camera Challenge while on vacation in New Mexico, so here are the results!

What do you guys think?! I was pretty happy with them! From a technical standpoint, it performs really well in direct sun and I really love the colors. There were a couple shots in the shade that came out really dark, so I would say that was the major weakness. I didn’t use the flash for any of these.

And artistically I would say this was a fun challenge! I felt a little silly using it, but man, it was convenient to just throw it in my handbag instead of carrying around my big heavy camera + lens(es). I think that was the biggest difference for me, actually. Not carrying the physical weight of my artistic tools took away some of the mental weight of thinking in photographer mode.

Will I use a disposable camera again? Maybe! I think it would be a great option for daytime outdoorsy adventures where you don’t want to bring expensive equipment or you need something waterproof. Does anyone else still buy disposable cameras for vacations? If not, how do you like to document your trips? I am curious, so leave a comment below!

Alissa Wesley - I’d say those are the prettiest photos I’ve seen coming from a disposable! Love all your work, but this truly exposes your artistic eye when you can produce those images from such a simple piece of equipment.

Had family over for the Fourth and Grandma was taking photos with a disposable. It’s been a while since I’d seen someone using one. ha!

Kristopher Kinzie - What brand of camera did you use? We’ll be going on our honeymoon in Hawaii in a few weeks and I think it’d be fun to take only disposable cameras. Any advice for that?

janacarsonblog - Kinzie – what a great idea for your honeymoon! I just used the FujiFilm Quick Snap 400 speed cameras from Wal-Mart. I bet you’ll get some beautiful colors with it in Hawaii! If you’re going to be in the water a lot I would get underwater ones or get one of the underwater cases for the iPhone. The iPhone’s camera is seriously impressive these days! Looking forward to the wedding!!!

Jessica - I love these so much, makes me want to start carrying disposable cameras with me!
