Sky Dance – OKC Ballerina Sarah Worden

Above Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City is a relatively new bridge called “SkyDance”. The architecture is inspired by the state bird, the scissored-tail flycatcher. At night the bridge lights up and changes colors every ten seconds or so. Sarah and I met here one evening in May to shoot ballet portraits incorporating the bridge’s architecture. I wanted flowy fabrics while the sun was still out to give softness next to all the straight lines. Sarah brought these beautiful yellow and blue watercolor skirts. After dark she changed into a galaxy print leotard which I thought lent itself well to the kind of futuristic vibe of the illuminated architecture. I’m proud of what we ended up with!

Little Ballerina Kate – Austin, TX

Kate is the daughter of my good friend and fellow photographer, Melissa Olson. She recently started ballet lessons and she loves it (that makes me SO happy)! We dressed her in classic all-pink little ballerina attire for a photo shoot around South Congress Ave in Austin, TX last weekend.

Kate has learned so much in ballet class already, which Melissa said was “like you two are speaking a different language!” when I would call out positions for her to stand in :) I hope Kate continues to love ballet for the rest of her life!
